FRENCH COURSES AT NAVIGATE

Welcome to the largest International Languages school in the Pacific Northwest!

If you are a high school student anywhere in B.C., the International Languages program at Navigate offers you the fastest and most convenient way to learn a new language outside of actually immersing yourself in a foreign culture. We have partnered with Rosetta Stone™, makers of the world’s leading language-learning software, to offer online courses in more than 20 languages, including French. Rosetta Stone allows you to learn naturally, not by translating and memorizing, but through Dynamic Immersion - the same way you learned your first language as a child.  Your ability to learn a new language is innate – these programs simply unlock your potential.

We offer two versions of Rosetta Stone: Version 3 (no fee) and Version 4 ($99 for a four month license). Both versions offer interactive lessons in reading, writing, speaking and listening; the Version 4 TOTALe license offers live online tutoring sessions to our students. The Rosetta Stone program is split into three different French courses based on the prescribed learning outcomes set by the Ministry of Education. The contents of our French 10, French 11 and French 12 courses are listed below. Please note that upon the successful completion of each of these three courses, students will earn four credits on their graduation program (for a total of twelve credits for students who complete French 10, 11 and 12).

High-speed Internet is required to run Rosetta Stone and students will need a USB headset with a microphone. There are no tests in these courses and everything is online.

These First Assignments are used for both our Version 3 Rosetta Stone program as well as our new Version 4 TOTALe (Rosetta Stone) program.

Please complete and submit the First Assignment that is appropriate for your situation, using the following as a guideline:

French 10 = this is the first, beginner's course; students should have little or no knowledge of the language (or a desire to start from the beginning); students complete Level 1 Units 1 - 4, plus Level 2 Units 1 & 2 of Rosetta Stone in this course. Students earn four credits upon the successful completion of this course.

French 11 = this is the second course; students should already have some knowledge of the language and/or have already completed our Introductory 11 course; students complete Level 2 Units 3 & 4, plus Level 3 Units 1 - 4 of Rosetta Stone in this course. Students earn four credits upon the successful completion of this course.

French 12 = this is the third course; students should have a solid foundation in the language and/or have completed the grade 11 course with us; students complete Levels 4 and 5 of Rosetta Stone in this course.  Students earn four credits upon the successful completion of this course.

If you have any questions regarding which course to choose, please contact the Registrar toll-free at 1-800-663-7925.

NOTE: Although Rosetta Stone Version 3 is an excellent computer-based language learning program, it is not a replacement for a live teacher. If you are committed to being able to speak French, we strongly encourage you to consider the TOTALe (Version 4) option. The TOTALe license will allow you to participate in unlimited live on-line coaching sessions with a native speaker. The Live Tutoring Sessions, which you can book based on your schedule, are designed to reinforce and practice what you learn in each Rosetta Stone unit and will be an integral part of your success in learning to communicate in the language.  With TOTALe, you will also have access to Rosetta World where you can read stories and play games online and connect with language learners around the world.
If you would like to use TOTALe, please contact the Registrar at 1-800-663-7925 to make payment.  The cost for the license is $99 for a four month license. Your course will not be set up until payment has been received for the TOTALe license and the First Assignment has been completed.
