Grade 6 Offerings

Students in Grade 6 have access to a variety of resources on topics that meet the prescribed learning outcomes. Some of the Grade 6 topics include: Microbiology, Electricity, Human Rights and Two Novel Studies.

Many Navigate teachers offer synchronous online activities using Elluminate Live, where students meet, discuss, share presentations, and are involved in a variety of projects together. Some of the offerings include: Spelling Bee (CanWest Canspell National Spelling Bee - every year we have had students move on to the regional competition in Victoria.), Literature Circles, Novel Studies, and Math Work Groups.

Many Navigate teachers also offer Virtual Worlds and Simulations, involving students in learning experiences that require participation in meaningful, real-world activities.

Interaction Classes (IClass) are offered in the Comox Valley, Qualicum and Nanaimo. Dates, times and availability of this option vary year to year so please contact us for more information. IClass provides a fantastic opportunity for students and their families to gather, connect and share.

IClass days include individual, small group and large group activities. The focus is on providing interaction for the learners and to provide opportunities that are harder to do at home individually. These interaction days meet a variety of curricular requirements as indicated by the Support Teacher.

Community based guests and field trips are also part of the Grade 6 program wherever possible.

Students participating in community based activities that wish to use some of their activities toward their program, negotiate with their teacher how to present their learning for credit.

There are several yearly events at Navigate. Past events have included: Family Hornby Island Retreat, Terry Fox Day, and an end of year family style picnic.

In addition, Navigate offers a range of special events and “Out and About Days” in a variety of geographical areas.
