The intermediate classes (grades 4-9) at FAE held a fundraiser for Free the Slaves, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating slavery (see freetheslaves.net for more information). There was entertainment provided by the students for the evening including: music, art and spoken word and it was open to the whole community.
The intermediate classes created their very own cardboard arcade games and sold fun passes for $2 which granted unlimited plays on any of the games. This project is inspired by the 10 minute Caine’s Arcade video (visit www.cainesarcade.com to watch both the original and follow up videos).
Along with student created artwork for sale, contributions were given to the fundraising efforts from inspired parents and students. Donations of art were given for our silent auction. We also served dessert for sale and the money went towards our fundraising for the organization.
We brought together our varied talents and raised over $1700 to help get people out of modern slavery. It reminds me of what a spark truly is: a talent or passion that contributes to making the world a better place. Thank you all for your contributions!
